Sotheby’s Unveils $8M Jewellery Collection From a Private Owner

Sotheby’s has announced it will showcase and auction a remarkable single-owner jewellery collection valued at more than $8 million. The event, titled A Legacy of Elegance: Jewels from an Exceptional Collection, will take place on 8 December in New York and features over sixty pieces from some of the world’s most celebrated Maisons.

Topaz, Morganite, Aquamarine and Diamond Necklace

An exquisite necklace uniting the delicate hues of topaz, morganite and aquamarine, accented with diamonds for timeless radiance. A creation where pastel gemstones meet refined craftsmanship, celebrating elegance in every detail.

Among the highlights are signature jewels by Suzanne Belperron and JAR, two names revered for their artistry and innovation in the field of high jewellery. The collection will embark on a global tour before returning to New York, where it will be exhibited in the days leading up to the sale.

Headlining the auction is a magnificent Boucheron necklace carrying an upper estimate of $2 million. The jewel is set with approximately 40 carats of cushion-shaped rubies and around 65 carats of old mine and old European-cut diamonds, further accented by single-cut stones. This exceptional creation embodies both opulence and refinement, cementing its place as the centrepiece of the sale.

“This collection stands out for its compelling variety of characteristics: rarity, distinguished authorship, impeccable provenance, and above all, iconic design,” said Quig Bruning, Sotheby’s Head of Jewels for America and EMEA. “It is a true celebration of connoisseurship, showcasing the finest jewels and artisans from the late 19th century through to the present day. Assembled with both passion and joy, these treasures were clearly deeply cherished and lovingly worn by their owner.”

With its blend of historic significance and contemporary artistry, A Legacy of Elegance promises to be one of the season’s most anticipated jewellery auctions, drawing collectors and connoisseurs from across the globe. In recent years, Sotheby’s and its competitors have seen strong demand for single-owner collections, a trend fuelled by the importance of provenance in the luxury market. Collectors increasingly view such sales as opportunities to acquire not only masterpieces of craftsmanship but also pieces with unique cultural and personal histories, qualities that continue to drive record results in the high jewellery sector.
